Since 1997 the Netherlands Institute for Scientific Information Services (NIWI-KNAW) is engaged in three projects concerning opening and digitalizing the Dutch Census Data from 1795 till 1971. These projects are:

In 2006, after the Institute for Scientific Information Services (NIWI-KNAW) was closed, the Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) took over the participation in the project '1795-1971 Dutch Censuses' and the maintenance of this website. Two of the above-mentioned subprojects have already been completed, the 'Life Courses in Context' will be accomplished in 2008.
